Janos Loska, a horseback tour operator, offers transport, full board, horses, and lodging for an entire week at € 1,090 per person. They can be relied on for a quality tour that will give you a good feel for the Hungarian countryside, with excellent cuisine and hospitality. The Hortobágy National Park riding tour starts in Tiszafüred, heads through the Puszta (the plains), and then goes north to Tokaj, where you visit the wine cellars. The first day can include a transfer from Budapest to Tisazafüred. You stay at the Hotel Hableány, which has wonderful views overlooking the river and absolutely great Hungarian food.
The rooms are good, each with bathroom and TV. On day two, you leave from the Gulyás Farm and move out to the Puszta, the grassland plains. Days two through seven are spent riding and picnicing, visiting csárdas across the Puszta. Extras may include visiting the Shepherd Museum in Hortobágy, a Csikós party on the Puszta, thermal baths and swimming. You will see the typical Puszta animals, the racka sheep, grey-cattle, nóniusz horses, curly hair pigs and hundreds of birds. One evening you will visit with shepherds as they cook their typical Puszta food, Slambuc, over a campfire.
